Alcoholism Treatment
by VIVITROL injection
For the last four years we have been providing Vivitrol injection at our facility.
It is the injection form of the drug Naltrexone or Revia and comes in a slow release form which allows once a month injection. It is indicated for people who continue to relapse despite being motivated for their sobriety. Vivitrol helps to reduce the cravings for alcohol which are triggered everyday in our society. We have been astonished by the results. There is more to Alcoholism Recovery than 12 steps and we can help because we are medical professionals.

Assessment and screening for addiction versus abuse. Addiction is considered by many to be a painful and shameful disease. A team that specializes in and is certified for addiction will help tailor your treatment according to your immediate needs. Medication & Conditions
- Opiate Detoxification:(Oxycontin)
Suboxone, Subetex are safe and efficacious medications for detoxification from pain medicines. It was approved ten years ago to open treatments to many patients who were desperate to get help. This medication has unique properties to help patient who are withdrawing from opiates. One of the requirement is to have a support system Family member or significant other. It is part of comprehensive treatment with individual, group therapy and education of the family.
- Alcohol Detoxification:
There is a lot of shame and isolation in alcoholism, many people have tried to stop on their own, but were not able to sustain sobriety due to the physical discomfort. Office based detox is indicated for patients who do not have any medical problems and have a strong support system. Recovery is a long process. It asks for behavior modification and find a new social profile.

This is the best defination of alcoholism, the inability to control the drink.
- Cocaine or Amphetamine withdrawal:
(Speed, Crank, Coke)
The main symptom is the inability to function the next day, which most often leads to the next use. The cycle has to be broken in order to prevent the inevitable consequences which are missing work and isolation from loved ones.Ther is no medication approved but good nutrition & good sleep. Hygiene will reestablish your chemical unbalance created by the use of cocaine. The reward system has to change and we offer an array of different therapies to help you to rediscover yourself. Cocain or amphetamine detox is done in a very private way. I use Librium or Valium. It's highly recommended to do this during a weekend.
- Benzo, Benzodiazepines Detoxification:
(Xanax, Ativa, Valium)
For long term users of Benzodiazepines, detoxification from Benzos is a long process using a long acting Benzo, usually tapered off over a period of weeks. As a board certified psychyatrist, I am in a very good position to deal with the underlying causes of this addictions such as anxiety. Simply stopping the drug is ususally not enough to maintain a long lasting independence from a benzo addiction.
Remember: Never stop taking Xanax ABRUPTLY. There is a very high risk of seizure in such situations!
RELAPSE PREVENTION
New treatments are now available:
ALCOHOL
- CAMPRAL: Medication aiming at reestablishing balance brain neurochemistry. Highly recommended for the first months of recovery.
- VIVITROL injections:
The Office is very happy to have a Vivitrol Injections site. Vivitrol has been approved by the FDA in 2006. We have many patients who received the treatment.
The treatment is not a substitute but will help to keep you in recovery.
Recently I heard: "The first time I was able to stay sober for more than three months!"
- "Old" ANTABUSE: Still very helpful in intractable Alcoholism.
BENZODIAZEPINE
- I most of the cases of addiction to XANAX, Klonopin or Valium there is an undergoing anxiety. Our goal is to get a proper treatment without any addictive medicine. Anxiety is a daily living situation which renders our lives difficult.
OPIATE DEPENDENCE
Pain medication and Heroin
- A six months long study shows the following: "Patients treated with Vivitrol were more likely to stay in treatment and refrain from using illicite drugs . Thirty six percents of the Vivitrol trated patients were able to stay in treatment for the full six months without using drugs compared with the 23 percent of the placebo group."
On October 13th 2010 Vivitrol has been approved by the FDA for Opioid dependence.
